What the plugin does to a WooCommerce order
Governments are making structured e-invoices mandatory between businesses, and a PDF by email no longer counts. The plugin adds one field to the checkout and takes over from the moment an order is paid. Nothing else in the store changes.
One optional field at checkout
A business customer types their VAT or business number in your country’s format. The format is checked as they type, an EU number against the VIES register, and the Peppol network is asked whether that buyer can receive e-invoices. Consumers see nothing new, and compliance never blocks a sale.
An invoice that reaches the buyer
A paid business order becomes the document format your country expects — Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 in Europe, PINT A-NZ in Australia and New Zealand, Fawtara in Oman — and GoRoute delivers it to the buyer’s own accounting software. The PDF and the XML both sit on the order.
Visibility in your admin
Every order shows its invoice number and its delivery state — being delivered, delivered, or what needs you. Errors are explained in plain language, and a daily digest collects anything a person has to look at.
Which countries can the plugin invoice in?
Six, chosen by where your business is registered rather than where your customer is. Each has its own identifier format, document format and rules, and each has a page of its own that goes further than this one can.
Belgium
B2B e-invoicing over Peppol (BIS Billing 3.0), mandatory since 1 January 2026. Belgian VAT number at checkout, checked against VIES and the network. Consumer sales need no e-invoice and get none.
Germany
EN 16931 invoices (Peppol BIS Billing 3.0) to business customers over Peppol, with the German VAT number checked against VIES at checkout.
Netherlands
Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 to business customers, Dutch VAT number checked against VIES. No domestic mandate yet; the network is there today.
Australia
PINT A-NZ invoices over Peppol, GST handled, and the ABN taken at checkout with its check digit verified before anything is issued.
New Zealand
PINT A-NZ invoices over Peppol, GST handled, and the NZBN taken at checkout with its check digit verified.
Oman
Fawtara. Consumers get a simplified tax invoice with the Fawtara QR code; businesses get a full tax invoice over Peppol; the tax report is filed with the Tax Authority automatically.
What is coming, and what is not
Singapore, Ireland, Austria, Luxembourg and the Nordics come next. Countries that route invoices through a national platform instead of Peppol — France, Italy, Poland, Romania — are shown as coming soon and cannot be selected yet. A country is offered only once GoRoute has delivered a test invoice to a real participant there, which is why the list is shorter than the marketing could make it.

How do you install it?
Three steps. A set-up wizard opens on first activation and can be run again at any time.
Install and choose your country
Install from the WordPress plugin directory, or upload the zip under Plugins → Add New. Open WooCommerce → GoRoute E-Invoicing and say where your business is registered.
Connect once
Press “Connect to GoRoute”, sign in or create the account, and approve. You come back with the key, your legal name and VAT number filled in and delivery updates switched on. The key is never shown or typed, and “Disconnect” forgets it.
Clear the readiness rows, then test
A Store readiness panel checks what a truthful invoice depends on in your country — taxes on at the right rate, the store address, the currency and decimals, your identifier registered on the network — with each fix beside its row. Then place a test order.

What is free, and what needs a subscription?
The plugin is free. The GoRoute account behind it is what issues the documents, and a new account starts on the Free plan: 50 invoices a month with every feature and no card.
The plugin, at no cost
Download, installation, updates and every feature described on this page. There is no paid tier of the plugin itself and nothing is held back behind an upgrade prompt inside WordPress.
The account, from free upward
Paid plans start at $19 a month and are bought from inside WordPress; the settings page shows the month’s usage next to the plans. A paid plan is never stopped at its allowance.
Why the account is not optional
The compliance rules, the validation and the network delivery live on GoRoute’s servers rather than in your store. That is the point: when a country changes its rules, every store is current the same day without a plugin update.
Several stores on one account
Connect each store; each gets its own key. Invoice numbers must be unique across the account, so give the second store a document number prefix. Stores belonging to different legal entities use different GoRoute organisations, one per VAT number.
What an e-commerce invoice flow must handle
Issuing the first invoice is the easy part. Most of the plugin is about the cases that follow.
Refunds and cancellations
Every refund on an invoiced order raises a credit note that cites the original invoice. A partial refund credits only the refunded lines; a cancelled order is credited in full. The credit note PDF goes on the refund email.
The buyer who changes
A changed buyer on an invoiced order is flagged, and one click credits the invoice and issues a new one to the right buyer. An order edited after its invoice was issued is flagged once with the total it was issued for — a tax document does not change with an edit.
Duplicates and outages
A retried or double-clicked order returns the same invoice rather than minting a second one. If GoRoute cannot be reached the checkout is never blocked; issuing retries in the background.
Documents the customer can reach
Every invoice and credit note has a PDF link on the order-confirmation page, in the order email and under My Account → Orders, in English or in Arabic for Oman stores. No login is needed; the link is signed and unguessable.
The figures for the VAT return
A monthly E-Invoice report lists every document of the month with net, VAT and gross — invoices and credit notes, consumer and business — and exports it as CSV for whoever files the return.
Failures you can see
A refused document is explained on the order in words, retried where retrying helps, and collected in a daily digest — never silently dropped. An order that would claim 0% VAT on a standard-rated item is refused with a plain explanation rather than filed.
Who this is for
One plugin covers four quite different jobs, and only one of them is a single store.
Store owners
You sell; the plugin invoices. A short set-up, then it runs itself — refunds, retries and delivery status included.
WooCommerce agencies
One plugin you can install for every client in any of the six countries, with nothing bespoke to maintain. The rules live on GoRoute’s servers, so your builds never go stale.

No plugin needed: the same issuing engine is one REST call at checkout, with the same delivery status coming back.
What runs it
WordPress 6.0 or later, WooCommerce 8.0 or later, PHP 7.4 or later, tested to WordPress 7.1. High-Performance Order Storage and the block checkout are supported, and the plugin uses the supported order APIs rather than direct table access, so core updates do not break it. Issuing hooks the payment-complete event, so every payment gateway behaves the same.
What the plugin does not claim
It generates and transmits structured e-invoices for the countries listed above and validates them against the applicable Peppol rules. Whether a given business is inside a mandate, and what else that mandate asks of it, is for the business and its adviser to confirm. No plugin can promise that, and one that does is worth reading twice.
