WooCommerce e-invoicing in Belgium, without changing your store

Since 1 January 2026, a VAT-registered business in Belgium must send its invoices to other businesses as structured e-invoices over the Peppol network. A PDF by email no longer counts. What changes in your store

Almost nothing — which is the point. The plugin listens to the order events WooCommerce already fires and adds the e-invoicing layer behind them.

One optional field at checkout

A business customer types their VAT number; the plugin checks it on the Peppol network as they type and says whether an e-invoice can reach them. Consumers see nothing new, and compliance never blocks a sale.

An invoice that reaches the buyer

A paid business order becomes a Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 e-invoice, delivered by GoRoute’s certified access point to the buyer’s own accounting software, with the PDF on the order email.

Visibility in your admin

Every order shows its invoice number, the delivery state as the buyer’s system acknowledges it, and a retry for anything that needs one. A card on the WordPress dashboard sums up the month.

The buyer is checked first

Before an invoice leaves, the buyer’s identifier is looked up on the network. A buyer who is not there is told in words on the order, never a silent failure.

Your own identifier is registered for you

Step 3 of the set-up registers the store’s VAT number on GoRoute’s SMP and the Peppol directory, scheme 0208 (enterprise number), so responses and incoming documents can find you.

The access point is GoRoute itself

The plugin is not an invoice generator bolted onto someone else’s network. GoRoute is the certified access point, so the invoice, its delivery and its status are one service.

What an e-commerce invoice flow must handle

The buyer’s acknowledgement lands on the order. Undelivered documents are retried by themselves after a registry hiccup at the buyer’s end.

A refused document is explained on the order in words, retried where retrying helps, and surfaced in a daily digest — never silently dropped, never allowed to block the checkout.

What applies to an online store in Belgium

Every domestic invoice between VAT-registered businesses must be a structured e-invoice (Peppol BIS 3.0) delivered over the network. Enforced today.

Consumer sales

No e-invoice is required for a sale to a private customer. The plugin says so on the order and issues nothing, so nothing is sent by mistake.

Included in this flow

A business customer who gives a Belgian VAT number at checkout receives a Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 invoice, delivered to their own software through the network, with a credit note on refund. The store’s own enterprise number is registered on the network from the set-up, and every buyer is looked up before the invoice leaves.

Plans

A new account starts on Free: 50 invoices a month with every feature. Starter, Growth, Business and Agency plans are bought and changed from inside WordPress; a paid plan is never stopped at its allowance. Registration of your own identifier on the network is included with every plan.

Does my WooCommerce store need e-invoicing in Belgium?+
If your business is VAT-registered in Belgium and sells to other businesses, yes: since 1 January 2026 those invoices must be structured e-invoices delivered over the Peppol network, and a PDF by email no longer satisfies the obligation. Sales to private consumers are not covered.
What does a business customer receive?+
A structured e-invoice (Peppol BIS Billing 3.0) delivered to their own accounting software through the Peppol network, plus the PDF you can attach to the order email. The order shows the delivery status, updated by GoRoute as the buyer’s system acknowledges it.
What happens on a consumer order?+
Nothing is sent: a sale to a private customer needs no e-invoice, and the order says so. If a VAT number is added to the order later, the plugin issues the business invoice then.
What identifier does the plugin register for me?+
Your enterprise number, which is your VAT number without the BE prefix, under the Peppol scheme 0208. Step 3 of the set-up registers it on GoRoute’s SMP and the Peppol directory; if another provider already holds it, the plugin says so in words.
Do I have to change my store or my theme?+
No. The plugin hooks into the WooCommerce order and refund events you already use. The checkout gains one optional field for the buyer’s identifier, checked against the network as it is typed.
What happens when a customer gets a refund?+
The plugin raises a credit note that references the original invoice and delivers it the same way. Refund in WooCommerce as normal; the document follows.
What if the buyer is not on the Peppol network?+
The invoice cannot be delivered, and the order says so in words with the identifier that was tried. Ask the buyer which identifier their accounting software receives under, or send them the PDF from the order page.
Is the plugin free?+
The plugin is free and a new GoRoute account starts on the Free plan: 50 invoices a month with every feature. Paid plans start at $19 a month and are bought from inside WordPress.
