PINT A-NZ Is Now the Only Accepted Profile in Australia
PINT A-NZ is now the only accepted Peppol billing profile in Australia after the May 2025 retirement of legacy ANZ. What changed and how to stay compliant.
PINT A-NZ in Australia in one sentence
Since 15 May 2025, PINT A-NZ is the only accepted Peppol profile in Australia — the legacy ANZ Peppol BIS profiles are retired — so every invoice and credit note you exchange must be produced and validated against PINT A-NZ, not European BIS. For the wider context, the Peppol e-invoicing Australia guide explains how the network fits together.
What changed, and when
Australia and New Zealand jointly moved the trans-Tasman network onto a single, current profile in two steps:
| Date | What changed |
|---|---|
| 15 November 2024 | All AU/NZ Peppol service providers had to support PINT A-NZ invoices and credit notes. |
| 15 May 2025 | The legacy A-NZ (ANZ Peppol BIS) profiles are no longer supported — PINT A-NZ only. |
Both dates have now passed. There is no dual-running period left: PINT A-NZ is the profile, and anything on the retired profile is out of scope.
What PINT A-NZ actually is
PINT A-NZ is the Australia-New Zealand specialisation of the international Peppol PINT model, based on Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 and jointly governed by the ATO and MBIE (New Zealand). It is the shared profile that lets one network serve both countries. For the distinction between the underlying models, see Peppol vs PINT.
The key point: PINT A-NZ is based on BIS Billing 3.0 but is not interchangeable with the European BIS Billing profile. Same lineage, different specialisation.
Why "based on BIS" is a trap
Because PINT A-NZ descends from BIS Billing 3.0, an invoice can look correct while being validated against the wrong artefacts. If your system or provider checks documents against European BIS Billing rules, it may pass its own validation and still be rejected by an Australian buyer, because the buyer validates against PINT A-NZ.
The fix is to validate against the current PINT A-NZ artefacts — the profile and customisation identifiers, business rules and code lists for A-NZ — before anything leaves your system.
How to confirm you are on the right profile
- [ ] Check the profile and customisation identifiers stamped on each document.
- [ ] Confirm validation runs against PINT A-NZ, not European BIS artefacts.
- [ ] Verify credit notes, not just invoices, are on PINT A-NZ.
- [ ] If you use self-billing, confirm it is on the A-NZ profile too.
- [ ] Confirm nothing still emits the retired ANZ Peppol BIS profile.
- [ ] Ask your provider for testbed conformance evidence for PINT A-NZ.
Who is responsible for this
In practice, the profile is your access point's job. An accredited AU/NZ provider must support PINT A-NZ, so if you send through one, the migration off the legacy profile is largely handled. If you are unsure whether your provider is accredited, see accredited Peppol service providers in Australia.
How GoRoute helps
GoRoute (POP000991) is a certified Peppol Access Point and SMP and, since July 2026, an ATO-accredited Australian Peppol Service Provider. We passed testbed conformance for PINT A-NZ Billing — invoice and credit note — and A-NZ self-billing, so documents are produced and validated on the correct profile before they leave, over one REST API. Frequently asked questions
- What is PINT A-NZ?
- PINT A-NZ is the Australia-New Zealand specialisation of the international Peppol PINT model, based on Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 and jointly governed by the ATO and New Zealand's MBIE. It is the profile used for invoices and credit notes exchanged over the trans-Tasman Peppol network.
- Is the legacy ANZ Peppol BIS profile still supported?
- No. Since 15 May 2025 the legacy A-NZ (ANZ Peppol BIS) profiles are no longer supported, and PINT A-NZ is the only accepted profile. From 15 November 2024 all AU/NZ Peppol service providers already had to support PINT A-NZ invoices and credit notes.
- When did PINT A-NZ become mandatory in Australia?
- From 15 November 2024 all AU/NZ Peppol service providers had to support PINT A-NZ invoices and credit notes, and from 15 May 2025 the legacy A-NZ profiles were retired. After 15 May 2025, PINT A-NZ is the only profile accepted.
- How do I know my invoices are on PINT A-NZ?
- Check the profile and customisation identifiers your system stamps on each document and validate against the current PINT A-NZ artefacts before sending. If your provider is validating against European BIS Billing, the profile is wrong even if the invoice looks correct. An accredited access point handles this for you.
- Is PINT A-NZ the same as European BIS Billing 3.0?
- No. PINT A-NZ is based on Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 but is a distinct Australia-New Zealand specialisation and is not interchangeable with European BIS Billing. You must validate against PINT A-NZ artefacts, not the European ones, or documents can be rejected.
- What happens if I send a legacy ANZ BIS invoice now?
- Because the legacy A-NZ profiles were retired on 15 May 2025, a document on the old profile is no longer accepted. In an increasingly automated processing environment it is rejected rather than fixed by hand, which delays payment. Moving to PINT A-NZ resolves it.
- Do I need to do anything if my provider handles PINT A-NZ?
- If your access point already produces and validates PINT A-NZ invoices and credit notes, the migration is largely handled for you. It is still worth confirming that credit notes and any self-billing you use are on PINT A-NZ, and that validation runs against PINT A-NZ artefacts rather than European BIS.
