GoRoute Connect for Excel
Keep invoicing in Excel.
We handle Fawtara.
Most small businesses in Oman invoice from a spreadsheet. You do not need to replace it. A GoRoute button appears in your Excel, checks every invoice against the Oman e-invoicing rules, sends it to your customer, and files the tax report.
Works with Excel 2016 and newer, on Windows and Mac — and in a browser.
| Customer | Description | Qty | Price | Status | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Al Fahal Trading | Service fee | 2 | 1.800 | Sent |
| 2 | Muscat Retail | E-Invoices | 27 | 0.080 | Sent |
| 3 | Zestyra LLC | Consulting | 1 | 45.000 |

Where your invoice goes
One press of Send does two separate jobs. Your customer gets the invoice, and the Tax Authority gets its report — within Oman’s 24-hour window for consumer sales.
An invoice created in Excel is checked by GoRoute against the Oman rules, sent over the Peppol network to your customer, and reported separately to the Oman Tax Authority.
Four steps, then it is routine
After the first invoice, the whole job is typing a row and pressing Send.
- Add it to Excel Run the installer. A GoRoute button appears in the Excel you already have.
- Connect once Paste the key from your dashboard. It stays on your computer, never inside the file.
- Type the invoice Customer, items, prices. Mistakes are explained in plain language before anything leaves.
- Press Send It reaches your customer, the tax report is filed, and the row turns green.
The parts nobody wants to learn
You enter what you sold and to whom. Everything below is filled in for you from your company profile.
Consumer sales
Leave the customer's VAT number blank and it goes out as a simplified tax invoice against the official substitute participant — with the Fawtara QR code the customer can verify.
Business sales
Enter the customer's VAT number and it becomes a full tax invoice, delivered over Peppol to their system rather than their inbox.
Credit and debit notes
Corrections reference the original document properly, so the Authority sees a correction rather than a contradiction.
Self-billing
When you raise the document on your supplier's behalf, it rides the separate Oman self-billing profile automatically.
Baisa-accurate amounts
Line amounts carry three decimals because the rial has a thousand baisa, while document totals stay at two — both rules at once.
Arabic
Switch the pane and the column headings to Arabic with one button. A sheet stays readable to colleagues working in either language.
Add it to your Excel
GoRoute works on every version of Excel that can run an add-in — Windows and Mac, subscription or bought outright — and on Excel in a browser. For most people the installer does the whole thing.
Windows
RecommendedExcel 2016 and newer. Double-click, allow the change, and Excel opens ready to go.
Download for WindowsMac
RecommendedExcel 2016 and newer. Signed and notarised by Apple, so it opens straight away. After installing, quit Excel completely (⌘Q) and open it again.
Download for MacWindows will show a warning — this is expected
Windows does not recognise new programs until it has seen them many times. The file is safe and comes from us. Macs are unaffected: our Mac installer is signed and notarised by Apple, so it opens without any warning.
- If you see “Windows protected your PC” — click More info, then Run anyway. The link is small and easy to miss.
- No “More info” link? Right-click the file, Properties, tick Unblock, then OK, and open it again.
- Windows asks to allow changes — click Yes. That is the installer setting Excel up.
Blocked at work, or would rather not install anything? Use Excel in your browser — same GoRoute, nothing to install.
Mac: install without the installer
The Mac installer works and needs no special handling. But if you would rather not run one at all, this does the same job — it copies one small file into Excel’s add-ins folder.
- Open Terminal (press ⌘Space, type Terminal, press Enter).
- Copy the line below, paste it in, and press Enter.
- Quit Excel completely (⌘Q), open it again, and find GoRoute under Home → Add-ins.

Which Excel do you have?
| Your Excel | Windows | Mac | What to use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft 365 the subscription |
Full | Full | Installer · Browser · IT admin |
| Excel 2024 / 2021 bought once |
Full | Full | Installer · Browser |
| Excel 2019 / 2016 | Full older-Excel version loads by itself |
Full | Installer · Browser |
| Excel 2013 / 2010 or older | Not supported | Not supported | Excel Upload |
| Google Sheets, LibreOffice, Numbers | — | — | Excel Upload |
Excel 2019 and 2016 run add-ins inside an older browser engine. GoRoute ships a second version of itself built for it and chooses between them on its own — there is nothing different for you to download.
Excel in your browser
Nothing to install, no warnings, and a free Microsoft account is enough. About a minute.
- Download the GoRoute add-in file ↓
- Open a workbook at excel.office.com.
- Choose Insert → Add-ins → Upload My Add-in and pick the file.
- GoRoute appears on the Home tab.
Your company has an IT administrator
Nothing for staff to do at all. Your administrator uploads one package under Microsoft 365 admin centre → Settings → Integrated apps and chooses who gets it — the button then appears in everyone's Excel.
Ask us for the deployment package →Excel 2013 or older, or another spreadsheet
These cannot run add-ins at all. Fill in the GoRoute template with whatever you have and upload it on the website. The checking, the sending and the tax reporting are identical — only the button is missing.
Go to Excel Upload →Setting it up by hand
Only needed if you would rather not run the installer, or it did not work. Desktop Excel will not take an add-in file directly — Microsoft routes it through a folder — so these are the steps the installer performs for you. You will need the GoRoute add-in file ↓.
Mac
- In Finder choose Go → Go to Folder and paste
~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Excel/Data/Documents/wef, creating theweffolder if it is not there. - Move the downloaded file into it.
- Quit Excel completely (⌘Q) and reopen.
- Open it from Home → Add-ins.
Windows
- Put the file in a folder and share it on your network (right-click → Properties → Sharing).
- File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings → Trusted Add-in Catalogs.
- Paste the share path, Add catalog, tick Show in Menu, OK.
- Restart Excel and open Insert → My Add-ins → Shared Folder.
If you want to remove it
Removing GoRoute changes nothing about your invoices. Everything already sent stays on your dashboard and remains filed with the Tax Authority, and your spreadsheets are untouched — the sheet stays exactly as it is, just without the button.
Windows
Settings → Apps → Installed apps, find GoRoute Connect for Excel, choose Uninstall. Then close Excel and open it again.
Mac
Open Applications and double-click Uninstall GoRoute Connect for Excel. Then quit Excel (⌘Q) and open it again.
Just for now
Close the GoRoute pane with the × in its corner. The button stays and the pane reopens when you click it — nothing is removed.
Common questions
Can I send Oman e-invoices directly from Excel?
Yes. GoRoute Connect for Excel adds a button to Excel that validates every invoice against the Oman Fawtara rules (PINT OM v1.0.1), sends it to your customer over the Peppol network, and files the tax data document with the Oman Tax Authority. You do not leave the spreadsheet.
Do I have to stop using Excel?
No. GoRoute Connect adds a button to the Excel you already use. You keep typing invoices the way you do today; the button handles the compliance, sending and tax reporting.
How do I make the GoRoute button always be there when I open Excel?
Open GoRoute once in a workbook, then save that workbook. Excel stores the add-in reference inside the file, so every time you open it GoRoute loads by itself with the button on the Home tab and the pane ready. Keep one workbook — call it Invoices — and open that to invoice. A brand-new blank workbook will not have it, because the reference lives in the file rather than in Excel.
How do I install the Excel e-invoicing add-in?
Download the installer for Windows or Mac and run it. The Mac installer is signed and notarised by Apple, so it opens without any warning; Windows shows a “Windows protected your PC” message for new programs — click More info, then Run anyway. If you would rather not install anything, open your workbook at excel.office.com and add GoRoute there; a free Microsoft account is enough. If your company has a Microsoft 365 administrator, they can deploy it once for everyone.
Which versions of Excel does it work with?
Excel 2016 and every version since, on Windows and Mac, whether you pay monthly for Microsoft 365 or bought Excel outright — plus Excel in a browser. Excel 2019 and 2016 use an older browser engine, so GoRoute ships a second version of itself for them and loads it automatically. Excel 2013 and older cannot run add-ins at all; those users fill in the GoRoute template and upload it instead.
What is a simplified tax invoice in Oman, and when do I issue one?
A simplified tax invoice is the document for a sale to a consumer who is not VAT-registered. Technically it is a normal invoice (type code 380) whose Oman transaction type marks it as simplified, issued against the official substitute participant because the buyer has no Peppol identifier. In GoRoute Connect you simply leave the customer VAT number blank and it is issued that way, with the Fawtara QR code the customer can verify.
How long do I have to report a B2C invoice to the Oman Tax Authority?
The Oman Tax Authority allows 24 hours to report the tax data document for a consumer (B2C) sale. GoRoute files it for you when you press Send, so an invoice showing 'awaiting the Tax Authority' inside that window is normal rather than stuck.
Can I put several items on one invoice?
Yes. Use the same invoice number on each row and they become one invoice with several lines. You only fill in the customer, date and type on the FIRST row of that invoice — leave those cells blank on the rows below and they use the same ones. If you do type a different customer against the same invoice number, GoRoute stops and says so, since two customers' goods cannot share one tax document.
Do I need my own Peppol Access Point?
No. GoRoute is a certified Peppol Access Point and an accredited Oman Fawtara service provider, so your invoices reach the network through us. There is nothing for you to certify, host or maintain.
Does it handle credit notes, debit notes and self-billing?
Yes. Choose the document type in the sheet. Credit and debit notes reference the original document properly, and self-billed invoices and credit notes ride Oman's separate self-billing profile automatically.
Is the add-in available in Arabic?
Yes. One button switches the pane and the column headings to Arabic, with the layout mirrored right-to-left. Column headings are recognised in either language, so a workbook shared between Arabic and English speaking colleagues keeps working for both.
Where is my invoice data stored?
GoRoute offers data residency in Oman for customers who require it, so invoice data does not leave the country. See the Oman data residency page for the detail.
What does GoRoute Connect for Excel cost?
The add-in itself is free to download and install. You need a GoRoute account to send invoices; book a demo and we will size a plan against how many invoices you issue.
What happens if I make a mistake?
You are told in plain language before anything is sent — for example that a customer's VAT number should start with OM followed by ten digits. Nothing is transmitted until every invoice passes the Oman rules.
Can I accidentally send the same invoice twice?
Within a sheet, no: sent rows are locked and the button disables while sending. Across different workbooks, take care — reusing an invoice number you have already issued creates a second, separate document. Invoice numbers must be unique and sequential for your business, so give every invoice its own number and never reuse one.
How do I remove it?
On Windows open Settings, then Apps, then Installed apps, find GoRoute Connect for Excel and choose Uninstall. On a Mac open your Applications folder and double-click Uninstall GoRoute Connect for Excel. Then close Excel and open it again. Your invoices are unaffected — everything already sent stays on your dashboard and your spreadsheets are untouched.
Where do I see what I have sent?
Sign in at goroute.ai to see every invoice, its delivery status and its tax reporting status on your dashboard. The sheet can also fetch it back — press Refresh status in the pane.
